Schools can play a central protective role for young refugees and asylum-seekers. Studies in the U.S. have found that refugees and asylum-seekers reporting a strong sense of belonging in their schools tend to have lower levels of psychosocial distress, and evidence from SALaMA points to concrete strategies schools can employ for supporting student integration and well-being. Drawing on SALaMA findings, this policy brief outlines what schools can do to support the mental health and wellbeing of Arab newcomer students.
